Topview Launches Recast, the Higgsfield Genjutsu Competitor Teased by Support
The tool Topview's support told us about on October 27 is available under the name Recast. Our first test: it works, on a principle very close to Genjutsu's, and costs the same as a Seedance video on Topview.

Follow-up to our October 27 report. Published on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 10:50 PM (Paris time).
Topview has indeed launched its answer to Genjutsu, Higgsfield’s tool that modifies a character or element in an existing video. The new tool is called Recast and is available in the Topview application: our editorial team verified its presence in a Topview workspace on Thursday, October 29, no later than 10:47 PM (Paris time). The code on Topview’s public homepage also lists an agent shortcut labeled “Recast,” alongside “Character Swap” and “Video Clone” (observed by our editorial team on the evening of October 29).
This confirms the report we published on October 27: Topview support had told us that a Genjutsu competitor would be released within about 24 hours. The tool has arrived, roughly on schedule or with a slight delay: we do not know the exact time it went live, only when we spotted it.
No Official Announcement Yet
As of this writing, Topview has not featured Recast on its blog, in its guides, or on its official X account (@TopviewAIhq), where October 29 posts focused on its in-house video model Topview T1, compared to Seedance 2.5, and on the arrival of Kling 4.0 on October 29. As a result, no public page details what Recast does, its limitations, the underlying models, or its credit cost. We will not share any of these details until they are published.
Up Against Genjutsu: What Can Be Compared
On Higgsfield’s side, the official pages are specific. Genjutsu offers two features: Motion Transfer, which captures the movement, camera work, and pacing of a video to apply them to a new character or scene, and Object Swap, which replaces a designated element while preserving the rest of the shot. It accepts videos from 4 to 30 seconds, up to 30 reference images per generation, and outputs up to 1080p resolution.
On Topview’s side, the comparison is currently limited to the name and positioning. The term “recast” usually refers to replacing individuals in a video, and support pitched the tool as a competitor to Genjutsu. Recast joins Character Swap, an older feature that replaces a person in an image or video using a reference image of the selected character, according to an official Topview guide.
Our First Test
Our newsroom tested Recast on Thursday, October 29, around 10:56 p.m. (Paris time). First finding: the tool works. Its approach is very close to Genjutsu’s, to the point that the workflow feels nearly identical: you start from an existing video and replace a character or an element in it, while keeping the original motion.
Second finding: in this test, a Recast generation cost the same as a Seedance video generation on Topview. Topview has not published Recast-specific pricing, so we are not giving a figure.
This is a single test, not a benchmark: it says nothing about the average quality of the results, the length or resolution limits, or a detailed comparison with Genjutsu, none of which we measured.
Our take
The timeline provided by support turned out to be accurate, giving weight to that exchange. However, a silent launch without documentation leaves the essentials unanswered: maximum video length, resolution, reference image count, and above all credit pricing, which will determine Recast’s value proposition against Genjutsu. We will update this article as soon as Topview publishes these details, and we will wait for independent tests before evaluating output quality.
